The Mazda 3 is a compact vehicle available as either a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback known as the Mazda 3 Sport. The two different body styles have slightly different dimensions and exterior features but remain fairly similar. For a compact model, the Mazda 3 has a fairly spacious interior while still maintaining the small exterior that makes it easy to maneuver and find parking for.

Mazda 3 Dimensions of the Exterior

The 4-door version, referred to simply as the Mazda 3, has a wheelbase of 2,700 millimeters and is 4,580 mm long, 2,053 mm wide, and 1,455 mm tall. The front track is 1,555 mm while the rear track is 1,560 mm. This model has a curb-to-curb turning circle of 10.6 meters. For those who are more comfortable with the measurements in inches, the wheelbase is 106.3 inches with a front track of 61.2 inches and a rear track of 61.4 inches. The 4-door sedan version is 180.3 inches long, 70.7 inches wide, and 57.3 inches tall.

The 5-door version, the Mazda 3 Sport, has similar measurements for most dimensions, including the wheelbase, overall height, overall width, turning circle, and front and rear tracks. The main difference comes from the overall length, which is 4,460 mm, 175.6 inches, in the Sport model.

Mazda 3 Dimensions for Interior

As with the exterior, the interior Mazda 3 dimensions are similar for the 4-door sedan and the 5-door hatchback. The sedan has a total passenger volume of 2,727 liters (96.3 cubic feet). On models without the moonroof, this includes 981 mm (38.6 inches) of front headroom and 955 mm (37.6 inches) of rear headroom. With the moonroof, these numbers decrease to 956 and 952 mm, respectively. There is 1,073 mm (42.2 inches) of legroom in front with 909 mm (35.8 inches) in the rear and 1,452 mm (57.2 inches) of front shoulder room with 1,382 mm (54.4 inches) of rear shoulder room.

The passenger volume in the Mazda 3 Sport is slightly larger, at 2,730 liters (96.4 cubic feet), but the figures for front and rear headroom, legroom, and shoulder room are identical.

Other Dimensions and Capacities

Either version of the Mazda 3 dimensions lets you fit 5 passengers in the space outlined above. The cargo area, however, varies based on body style. The 4-door Mazda 3 has a 50-liter (13.2-gallon) fuel tank and cargo space for 350 liters (12.4 cubic feet) in the trunk. While the 5-door Mazda 3 Sport shares the 50-liter fuel tank, its cargo area is much more spacious. When all seats are upright, there are 572 liters (20.2 cubic feet) of storage. The hatchback body style leads to Mazda 3 dimensions for the maximum cargo capacity of 1,334 liters (47.1 cubic feet) with the rear seats folded. Essentially, the Mazda 3 Sport has more space for cargo and a slightly shorter overall length. Other than the cargo capacity, however, the differences in dimensions between the two models are negligible.
